About Us
Schultz Excavating was started in October 1983 by Werner and Janice Schultz. Together, they built a reputation on ethics, integrity, and solid work. Second generation, Tristan Schultz has returned to the business to take over operations as of 2020. Tristan grew up in the business as a young lad operating heavy equipment and helping on jobs from about age 8. By age 14 he was capable of completing septic and basement installations with little supervision. Tristan left the small town setting to start a construction and remodeling business in the metro area. He is now back in excavating with 2 decades of construction experience to add to the mix. Having grown up in the town of Remer, MN, Tristan knows the area, the people, and the geography. Having spent over 2 decades in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul Metro area, he also understands the needs of others and how best to support your project requirements.
Third Generation
Located in Cass County, MN we serve Remer, Longville, Outing, Emily, Boy River, Brevik, Fifty Lakes, Wabedo, Hill City, and the surrounding area. Whether you just need a load of class 5 spread on your driveway, or a road built, culvert replacement or tree removal, basement or building pad, septic or holding tank, building demo or building construction (www.tjschultzinc.com), Schultz Excavating is here to help. With 40 plus years, and two generations of experience, you have a committed construction asset with Schultz Excavating.
A word about septic systems: A septic system (SSTS - sub-surface sewage treatment system), is basically your own private water treatment facility owned and operated by you. For many people, this is a perfunctory part of rural living, but this is not an item that we should overlook or skimp on. When your neighbor decides to go with the lowest common denominator to install his/her septic system, it could greatly impact YOUR water, not to mention the environment, and the same aquifer that services many others. Properly designed and installed, a septic system DOES effectively treat your waste water and return it SAFELY to the MN watershed. We understand the importance and gravity of our role as septic designers and installers and want to ensure that we are providing a safe and quality SSTS system for our clients, their neighbors, and everything downstream that depends on clean uncontaminated water.
Class 5 AKA "Gravel"
The term "class 5" seems to be a misused, misunderstood, and over generalized term slapped on any dirt that someone wants to sell you to go on your road or driveway. "Results may vary" to say the least. It is an expensive process to make REAL class 5 (as it is defined). It is a mixture of crushed rock, fines, clay, and course materials that are measured by their gradient and are mixed proportionately. Schultz Excavating has quality material custom made to their standards. Applied properly and sufficiently, our class 5 isn't going to turn into a muddy slimy mess every time it rains or when the frost goes out in the spring.
